At Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board, our secondary schools offer the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program, designed to give students in Grades 11 and 12 an enriched learning experience that aligns with their career goals. SHSM provides students with a pathway to gain industry-recognized certifications, practical skills, and hands-on experiences in their area of interest, while exploring opportunities in apprenticeships, college, university, or the workforce. To participate, students must register in Cooperative Education, which allows them to apply classroom learning in real-world settings and earn the Red Seal designation on their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) upon graduation. Beyond the classroom, SHSM students access a variety of awareness events, workshops, and sector-specific experiences, helping them make informed decisions about their future careers and postsecondary studies. This program empowers students to build valuable skills, develop professional networks, and gain a competitive edge as they transition from high school to the next stage of their education or career.
